“In 2019, the world’s buildings consumed 35% of our global energy consumption and 55% of our global electricity consumption.”

SBTi: Reynaers Aluminium joins the fight against climate change

A select few leading companies are setting ambitious climate goals and are on their way to become futureproof enterprises. Reynaers Aluminium, as part of Reynaers Group, has joined them in their journey and is committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

What is SBTi?

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is an environmental partnership between WWF and the United Nations that sets emission reduction targets for businesses all over the world. Their mission is “to drive ambitious corporate climate action” as they support companies with clear-cut, science-based goals that help them operate successfully in an eco-friendlier way.

The goals SBTi sets out are aligned with the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement , which states that global warming should be limited to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels. In fact, SBTi takes matters one step further and sets its global warming limit at 1.5°C. Only when large companies do their fair share of the work will we be able to prevent the worst consequences of climate change. That is why Reynaers Group is one of the 3,800 daring enterprises that have committed to this ambitious environmental programme.

Choosing the right windows and doors can be a hard step in every sustainable building project. To make your search a bit easier, Reynaers Aluminium provides professional guidance and durable, energy-efficient products that last a lifetime.

Reynaers Act: Green commitments with impact

Reynaers Act is our sustainability strategy and our commitment to help tackle climate change by setting and meeting specific targets. Actions speak louder than words and Reynaers Act lays out specific sustainability targets to reduce emissions. Thanks to our clear goals and well-thought-out plan of action, we will have a significant impact and cut our direct and indirect carbon emissions by 50% by 2030.We are also aligned with the Irish Government’s pledge to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

1. Contributing to more sustainable buildings

Buildings account for 35% of the energy used worldwide. To reach our climate goals we need to reduce that energy use. Reynaers Group is improving the energy efficiency, comfort, safety and long term durability of buildings by developing innovative products and services. We also help customers choose sustainable and energy efficient solutions for all their building projects.

2. Developing Circular Products

Material extraction, manufacturing of materials and products, construction and renovation are responsible for five to twelve per cent of greenhouse gas emissions. By making better use of materials, we will limit up to 80% of these emissions. Circularity plays an important role in creating this material efficiency and minimizing the environmental impact of the construction sector. That is why we are systematically extending the range of our circular products.

3. Reducing our Ecological Footprint

Industry in general has a big impact on climate change. Reynaers Group is no exception. We are reducing the environmental impact of our operational processes and logistics to a minimum while expanding our existing efforts to reduce our carbon emissions.

4. Continuing to be a Caring Company

We care for our people. We work and train hard to make safety second nature for all of our employees active in our motivating attractive working environments. Moreover, we want to positively impact the communities in which we operate by supporting local initiatives that improve the working and living conditions of all.

Our sustainability strategy report details how Reynaers will take action to reduce the carbon footprint of our operations by reducing emissions in our business, value chain, products, and the buildings they are used in.
